Nagi.md Open web app

Guide

Desktop app

Double-click a .md file and it opens right away. Follow folders and note links, and check Git changes in the same window. The Windows app is available now; the Mac app is coming soon.

Get the app

Get the installer from the download page. Viewing and editing are free right now, with no trial registration, sign-in, or purchase. To check whether the app is still offered for free, it reads a settings file (plan.json) from the official site at startup and at other times. You can edit even without an internet connection.

Open documents

Saving and auto save

The left end of the status bar: the sidebar button, Auto save ON, and the change status

Use Auto save ON / OFF in the status bar. It is on by default and saves when focus moves from the document to menus, or to another window or app. For a new document, press Ctrl+S first to choose a location.

When you close a window with auto save on, the document is saved before closing. If unsaved changes remain, you are asked whether to save. When another app changes the file, Nagi.md tells you instead of overwriting it.

Staying resident and quitting

Nagi.md stays in the notification area and prepares the next document window ahead of time so files open quickly. Closing a window keeps it resident. Double-click the notification-area icon to open a new document.

To quit completely, right-click the notification-area icon and choose Quit Nagi.md. Open documents are saved before quitting. Quit this way before updating the app.

Images

Dropping or pasting an image into a saved document opens a dialog for the destination folder (images by default) and format (keep, PNG, JPEG or WebP). Existing files are never overwritten; a number is added instead. Images are shown by paths relative to the document, such as ![description](images/photo.jpg).

Git changes and history

For documents tracked by Git, the diff button at the top right shows changes since the last commit in the rendered document, including unsaved input. The Git tab in the sidebar shows the history graph, files and diffs for each commit, and staged and unstaged changes. It only displays; it does not commit or change anything. Git must be installed on the PC.

Switch with VS Code

Open in VS Code at the top right opens the same file in VS Code. Open in App in the VS Code extension opens it in the desktop app. Unsaved changes are saved first.

CSS folder

Put .css files in the folder opened by CSS folder → Open Folder in Appearance (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Nagi\Themes) to style documents. Additions, edits and deletions apply automatically, and multiple files apply in file-name order. On Windows, the VS Code extension uses the same folder.
